Robert WK Clark’s photographs depict women in erotic, yet tasteful, positions. His works are categorized by series like Artistic Nude, Rock Formations, Everything Else, Erotic Series, and Water Works, among other series. The Water Works Series has 16 photographs, and of particular interest is a photograph modeled by Jacqueline Martino and created in Jemez Springs, New Mexico August 2009. The photograph shows a woman’s side, predominantly her right outer thigh and the corresponding buttock.  The woman is lying nude on her side and the gush of clear water flowing through her body completes the photograph.  This particular Water Series photograph is a study on the transition from cool colors to warm colors. The woman’s natural skin color is replaced by a purplish hue. That then gradates into the water’s warm reddish and orange tones.  It is interesting to note that Clark employs the use of contrast in this photograph. The woman’s body is supposed to be warm, yet he uses a cool purple color. The water, moreover, should have a color that symbolized its coolness, calmness, and tranquility. Instead, Clark made the flowing water into a study of aggression, a man’s trait.

One needs a creative mind to know what the photograph is all about. The main subject is a woman, in which her traits include coolness, subtlety, and softness. This is manifested in her smooth skin, as evidenced in the photo. The rushing water symbolizes a man, who is enveloping every nook and cranny of her elegant and glorious body. This piece symbolizes an embrace, a union between a man and a woman.  It also stands for yin and yang, calmness and aggression, and warm and cool. Essentially, this photograph is a study of contrast. Such a photo is a great way of interpreting sensuality and eroticism.  One would look at it and see a woman’s side with water flowing around her body. This Water Series photograph also shows a lot of balance, with woman’s exposure just enough to show the water’s aggression. Overall, it is a good study, and would be a great addition to a contemporary setting.
