Robert WK Clark is a renowned artistic photographer, often employing nude women as the subjects of his photographs.  His “Sand Series” is an interesting and tasteful collection of nude women surrounded by the gently rolling sand dunes of New Mexico.  One magnificent photograph of Robert WK Clark was modeled by Karie Taylor and was created on August 2009 in New Mexico.  This photograph shows Karie lying on her stomach with the linear sands situated in the background.  One would notice the model’s seamless contours of her buttocks, which are the main subjects of the photograph.  Regarding the sand dunes, one might be reminded of Japanese print art, which generously uses land forms as the main subjects or as backdrops.  Would one not be reminded of Mt. Fuji?  This photograph conveys a message of playfulness.  The Karie photograph is an exercise of contrast.  The contrast meant is not a contrast in color, as the only color used in the photograph is sepia.  Rather, this photo is a contrast of light and shade, a contrast of curves and edges, a contrast of flowing lines and straight lines, and a contrast of female and male characteristics.  It is essentially a Yin and Yang exercise.

The Karie photograph means an admiration of the female form.  The edgy sand dune in the background stands for any individual; for instance, an art collector or an art enthusiast admiring the perfect curves of the woman.  Her pose is very playful and is a great artistic subject that can grace any environment.  The lighting in the photograph highlights the magnificent curves of the model.  In all, this photograph celebrates womanhood.  It celebrates the power of women over others in some aspects and it also holds the idea that women are to be admired, adored and treated with respect.  The Karie photograph by Clark is one of the Sand Series’ amazingly balanced photographs.  It displays the mastery of Clark in the use of light and it also manifests Clark’s master of proportion.  The woman’s body dominates the photograph, yet it is not overpowering that it forgets the nearly perfect sand dune in the background.
